Chadwick Boseman

AN ACTOR AND PLAYWRIGHT WHO STARRED IN THE FIRST MAJORITY-BLACK MEGABLOCKBUSTER BROUGHT TO THE SILVER SCREEN

Chadwick Boseman is most known for his role as the superhero Black Panther. Boseman had a storied career before portrayed cultural milestone King T’Challa, having studied directing at Howard University, played Jackie Robinson in 42, and Thurgood Marshall in Marshall.

He died from cancer, having kept his condition a private one while continuing to act and extensively supporting cancer charities until his death in 2020. He was posthumously nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor, and he was known for his commitment to embodying a character and portraying Black icons and pioneers. More than a virtuoso actor, Boseman was described by Rhea Combs, film curator of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, as "not only a conduit to the past and the way African-Americans persevered and pushed through so many challenges, he also represented brightness and the promise of tomorrow."
